Mary has been a clinical social worker in St. Paul, Minnesota for 27 years. For the last 24 years, she held a variety of unique social work positions in Saint Paul Public Schools. She developed The (Poetry) LAB, employing the therapeutic use of poetry and creativity with youth struggling with emotional/behavioral disorders; she developed the Out for Equity Program to support LGBTQ youth, staff and families; she worked for the educational stability of youth in foster care; and developed support groups for middle school youth struggling with depression.
Through her business, Think In Possibilities, she provides therapeutic and supportive writing circles for women, and training for teachers and social service providers who want to employ creativity and poetry in group work to support the emotional well-being of youth and adults.
Mary has been an adjunct faculty in the School of Social Work at St. Catherine University and University of St. Thomas (SCU/UST) since 2003, where she teaches both foundation-level and clinical group work courses. She is currently pursuing her doctorate in social work at SCU/UST.
