All blessings for a New Year!

As we moved through the long night, the holiday season and into the new calendar year I heard many people say they are hoping 2018 is an improvement on last year. I share that feeling. The M2 project is and always has been about nurturing a way of living that increases our capacity and willingness to show up as responsible beings in a fully interconnected universe. So, yes, onward and upward – let’s be involved, let’s listen more, love more, be at peace more, and work harder to better understand what the world is trying to be.

All things M2 – which is to say all things Urban Monk and Junk Funk – are either in full-blown mindful action already or soon will be. Keeping it simple, here’s an overview of 2018 offerings and events, those that are Continuing, Brand New and Discontinued.

Details on all 2018 programs:

Monday Night Meditation Lowertown: 6:30pm to 8:00pm

308 Prince Street #250 St. Paul, MN 55101 (2nd floor in the Northern Warehouse)
This group meets every Monday evening from January 8th to August 21st and from September 10th to December 18th. No prior experience with meditation needed, drop in basis, no fee, donations accepted. On street and lot parking, 1 block from the Union Depot Green Line stop and directly on several bus routes.

 

Friday Morning Meditation East Side Freedom Library: 9:00am to 10:00 am

1105 Greenbrier Street, St. Paul, MN 55106
This group meets every Friday morning from January 12th to August 3rd and from September 7th to December 21st. No prior experience with meditation needed, drop in basis, no fee, donations accepted, free on street parking, 1 block off Payne Avenue and the #64 bus route.

 

Non-Violent Communication Practice Group: 7:30am to 8:00am

Weyerhaueser Chapel, Macalester College (CRSL lounge in the basement)
1600 Grand Ave, St. Paul MN 55105
This group meets the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month, February through April to study and practice the method and spirit of non-violent communication. No previous experience with NVC is necessary. Third Tuesday Contemplative Walks: 6:45pm to 8:00pm

  • Feb 20th – Lake of The Isles
  • March 20th – Downtown St Paul
  • April 17th – River Road West
  • May 15th – Como Lake
  • June 19th – Lake Phalen
  • July 17th – Stone Arch

Everyone is welcome and encouraged to enjoy these simple and restorative contemplative walks. We walk silently together for an hour at a moderate pace in a different location every month, enjoying the beauty and peace of quiet communion with nature and each other. There is no cost. Gathering spots are posted on Urban Monk Facebook Page Events and the website calendar. You can also contact me for more information.


Mindful Living Intensive Trainings:

  • Winter: Feb 15th – March 15th
  • Spring: April 19th – May 17th
  • Summer: June 7th – 21st

Our one-month intensives are designed to deepen your meditation practice, attenuate your relationship with self-care practices and develop a deep awareness of the principles of mindul living. Participants are required to meditate a minimum of 20 minutes every day, attend three of our group events, participate in at least one day of retreat, maintain a regular exercise plan for the month and participate in the readings and keep a mindful living journal. You must have some prior experience with meditation to register for these trainings. The cost is $100. To register, use the contact page on the M2 website.


Junk Funk

This is our community arts group that transforms buckets, garbage containers, old metal objects and random pieces of junk into musical instruments and makes delightful, energetic music with them. The group holds 3 open rehearsal/workshops every month, February through October (dates to be announced) and performs 15 to 20 times a year at places like Saint Paul Saints games, the State Fair, community festivals and Art Crawl.

Everyone is welcome, no previous experience is necessary. This is a family-friendly group. Instruments and instructions are provided. There is no cost.
